Winter Percussion Ensemble This competitive ensemble rehearses three times a week after school beginning in December and competes in area contests from February through April. Non-percussionists who can read music are welcome to audition for this ensemble. No experience is necessary. Enrollment in a band, orchestra or percussion class is required. The Bear Creek High School Winter Percussion Ensemble has a long history of excellence throughout the district, state, and the nation. The ensemble has been under the dedicated direction of Lauren Ryals since 2005, and has consistently been ranked as one of the premiere programs in the nation. Under Ryals' direction, the ensemble was the 2006 Scholastic Concert Open Silver Medalist at the RMPA Championships, and was the 2007 and 2008 Scholastic Concert Open Champions. In 2008 the ensemble made a trip to Dayton Ohio, and placed 2nd in the Scholastic Concert Open Class. In 2009, the ensemble competed for the first time in their history in Scholastic Concert World Class and received first place at the 2009 RMPA State Championships.
