Band Camp Parent Volunteer Print E-mail

CALLING ALL MARCHING BAND PARENTS!

Band Camp is fast approaching and this is where it all begins. A successful Band Camp is important to a successful competition season. We need your help to provide snacks to our hard working kids and staff from August 2nd thru August 6th, and August 9th thru August 11th.

This is a great way to meet this year’s band members, see their hard work, and get a glimpse of what promises to be a great season.

Each day of Band Camp healthy snacks and beverages are provided for the kids and staff. Each afternoon we also provide popsicles. We need volunteers to provide 100 SINGLE popsicles each day from August 2nd thru August 11th.

Two to three parents are needed each morning to set up and staff the morning snack. This involves getting drinks (water & Gatorade) and fruit ready and to the commons area around 10:30 a.m. Approximate time: 2 hours.

We also need 2 parents each afternoon to set up and staff the afternoon snack. This involves making sure that there are enough drinks for the kids and staff, as well as having the popsicles in the commons area at around 2:30 p.m. Approximate time: 1 hour.

On Thursday, August 5th, we will need 4 parents to help serve lunch to the band at around noon. Note: Band members will need to provide their own lunch on all other days of camp. Approximate time: 2 hours

Help will also be needed for the picnic on August 13th. In addition to the set up and clean up, we need a couple of parents to grill the hamburgers and hot dogs. If anyone has a grill that they can bring for the evening, to supplement the band grill, we can get everyone through the food line much faster.

Please contact Diane Stephens at dmstephens225@comcast or at 303-489-3591 (cell phone) with any questions and to volunteer. Come join the fun!

See schedule and duties document for more volunteer information. This information will also be posted on the door to the Booster closet.

SCRIPS

SCRIPS is another fundraiser that doesn't cost a penny, and can put lots of money in your student's account. Businesses pay a percentage of gift cards to your student's music fund with the purchase of their gift cards. The percent of donation varies.

Scrips orders will be sent in on a regular schedule of the 1st and 15th of each month; we’ll increase the frequency as needed during the holiday “gift card” spree.  Click Here for the form to email to me, or print out for hand-written orders.   Click Here for the shopwithscrip.com website for the list of merchants and percentages.

Payments enclosed in a sealed envelope can be dropped off in Tammy Ahmed’s box or contact me (Cheryl Joseffy)

at cj57etal@yahoo. com to arrange for delivery or pick-up.

Please include in the envelope:

· Your name (as person ordering)

· A phone number where I can reach you

· Check or checks made out to BCHSIMP

What to Look For in a Private Teacher

A good high school private teacher should be work with your child on the following concepts:
  • All 12 Major scales - and when more advanced - all forms of minor scales
  • Chromatic scales
  • Etudes specific to the instrument (not just working on music from band or orchestra)
  • Ensemble pieces (they should play duets with their students)
  • Sight reading
  • Alternate fingerings/concepts - which would allow students to perform music smoothly
  • Music theory
  • Embouchure work and range training exercises

Congratulations to our Students
